We are looking forward to having your children in class starting Monday August 3rd. We know there are many questions you have before the first day of school. We will try to address some of the big concerns here for you. It is our goal to minimize inconvenience for everyone, but bringing together over 1500 children with over 130 teachers and staff is always a challenge. 1st major concern, School capacity: The area surrounding Hambric continues to grow, and we still have more students in our attendance area than space at the school. Because of this many students may have to be temporarily overflowed to campuses with available class space. If you registered your child in June or July for the first time your child may need to be temporarily overflowed to another campus. We will return your child to Hambric as soon as we have an opening. If you did not receive specific information that your child will be assigned to an overflow campus, please call 937-4611 to verify status. 2nd item: Schedules. Student schedules will not be sent home before the first day of school. Class rosters indicating the first period class for your child will be posted in the windows of Hambric Friday July 31st at 2:00 pm. Please come to the school at your convenience over that weekend to see where you child will start the day on Monday. When your child reports to their 1st period class August 3rd, their teacher will distribute to each student their full schedule. Please check the posted class lists very carefully. If you cannot find your child’s name on any first period roster, bring your child to school the first day and report to the main office and we will determine what has occurred. Schedule changes will only be considered to meet the academic needs of the students. For secondary classes we do our best to match electives with your child’s first choice, but this is not always possible. 3rd item, School uniforms: Any students who are brand new to Jane Hambric have a 30 day grace period before the school will require uniforms. Any families who are experiencing economic difficulty in meeting uniform requirements are encouraged to contact the school so we may assist you. 4th item: School supplies. Many teachers have different student supply needs. We have some of the elementary supply lists available in the main office if you wish to stop by and pick one up. For teachers that have not provided lists in advance, send your child to school with at least a pencil, black or blue pen, and a spiral notebook or paper. This will be sufficient for the start of school and detailed supply list will be provided by teachers when they meet your child in class. Lastly, this is an important message for 7th and 8th grade students planning to participate in sports. Practice for fall sports, football, volleyball, and cross country running begin the first day of school. For any student to try out or even practice you must have passed a health physical examination and it must be on file with the school. If your child does not a physical on file, you may pick up blank sports application packets that include physical forms to take to your Dr. to document a physical examination. The office is open from 8:00 am till 3:30 pm. Students interested in playing football, if you have a physical on file or have a completed physical form in hand, need to come to Hambric on Saturday August first between 8:00 am and 12:00pm to pick up football safety equipment needed for practice starting Monday. Bring a combination lock so you can secure your equipment. We are the edge of an exciting new year. We look forward to having your children back at Hambric. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding. |
